ARJ is a file compression utility with more file management
functions than other popular file compression utilities. The version management and backup
support features of ARJ strongly set it apart from other file compression
utilities. ARJ
is command line driven which makes it easier to use in automated processes such as
providing backup for an accounting package.
ARJ is not just another archiving program. The flexibility of ARJ lets users manipulate
and manage files in ways that no other archiver or file manager does.
MAJOR FEATURES OF ARJ INCLUDE:
Year 2000 compliance.
Windows 95 long filename support in ARJ and REARJ (not Win
NT). An evaluation/test version
of ARJ for Win95/NT (32 bit version) should be available soon.
The ability to process and archive up to 65,000 files at one
time.
The ability to store many different backups (chapters) within a SINGLE archive and restore
any specific backup. This is a powerful file version management feature.
The ability to save and restore Win95 file date-time accessed and created
properties.
The ability to restore just the file attributes and/or file
dates.
ARJ provides excellent file compression in terms of resulting archive size and
speed.
ARJ has the option to create multiple volume archives with one command making ARJ useful
for making backups to multiple floppies or archiving a very large file to several floppies
without "SLICE"ing.
A myriad of commands and options to provide ummatched flexibility in archiver usage and
file management.
