SBX, the SpinnerBaker eXtractor - is an easy to use archive maker
and extractor. It creates its own brand of archives, with an SB file extension, and
registers the extension, so all you have to do is double click an archive from Windows
Explorer to open it. Its most outstanding feature is that it creates a better executable
archive.
An executable archive (also called a self extracting archive) created with SBX presents a
dialog box with a title before it extracts anything. That lets a user run the program to
see what it is without accidentally filling a directory with extracted files. If the
archive creator set the option, an SBX archive will also let a user extract the archive's
readme file and open it with Notepad, with the click of a button. If the archive is a
software setup archive, another option can be set to ask the user if he wants to run the
setup program (after it has extracted the files).
With so many internet newbies around, a user friendly extractor like SBX which doesn't
require an archive program to extract files, lets the user know what the archive is before
it extracts anything, and offers to run the setup program after it extracts the files, is
way overdue.
