  • Salomon D. Data Compression: The Complete Reference
Пожалуй, лучший из имеющихся в настоящее время нетематических (обзорных) справочников. Больше 900 страниц, весит килограмм, автором собрано большое количество справочного материала по алгоритмам.
  • Sayood Kh. Introduction to Data Compression, Second Edition
Одна из лучших книг для изучения общих вопросов сжатия данных.
The second edition of Introduction to Data Compression builds on the features that made the first the logical choice-for practitioners who need a comprehensive guide to compression for all types of multimedia and instructors who want to equip their students with solid foundations in these increasingly important and diverse techniques. This book provides an extensive introduction to the theory underlying today's compression techniques, with detailed, instruction for their application. All of the coverage has been updated to reflect the state of the art in data compression, including both new algorithms and older methods for which new uses are being found. And the downloadable software gives you the opportunity to see firsthand how various algorithms work, to choose and implement appropriate techniques in your own applications, and to build your own algorithms.
  • Wayner P. Compression Algorithms for Real Programmers

  • Taubman D.S., Marcellin M.W. Jpeg2000: Image Compression Fundamentals, Standards, and Practice
JPEG2000: Image Compression Fundamentals, Standards and Practice is an essential reference for professional engineers and academic researchers in the fields of communication, image processing, signal processing, information theory, and multimedia. It hasspecific applications for those involved in the development of software and hardware solutions for multimedia, internet, and medical imaging applications, and for those pursuing research in image and video compression. The book is suitable as a primary text for a course in image compression; it would also be helpful in the context of a more general class covering multimedia compression at an in-depth level. Final year engineering undergraduate students pursuing projects in multimedia compression and/or communication would also find the book a useful tool. JPEG2000: Image Compression Fundamentals, Standards and Practice is written in four parts, to serve the interests of a wide readership.
  • Westwater R., Furht Borko, Furht Borivoje. Real-Time Video Compression: Techniques and Algorithms
Real-Time Video Compression: Techniques and Algorithms introduces the XYZ video compression technique, which operates in three dimensions, eliminating the overhead of motion estimation. First, video compression standards, MPEG and H.261/H.263, are described. They both use asymmetric compression algorithms, based on motion estimation. Their encoders are much more complex than decoders. The XYZ technique uses a symmetric algorithm, based on the Three-Dimensional Discrete Cosine Transform (3D-DCT). 3D-DCT was originally suggested for compression about twenty years ago; however, at that time the computational complexity of the algorithm was too high, it required large buffer memory, and was not as effective as motion estimation. We have resurrected the 3D-DCT-based video compression algorithm by developing several enhancements to the original algorithm. These enhancements make the algorithm feasible for real-time video compression in applications such as video-on-demand, interactive multimedia, and videoconferencing. The demonstrated results, presented in this book, suggest that the XYZ video compression technique is not only a fast algorithm, but also provides superior compression ratios and high quality of the video compared to existing standard techniques, such as MPEG and H.261/H.263.
  • Richardson I. Video Codec Design: Developing Image and Video Compression Systems
Video compression coding is the enabling technology behind a new wave of communication applications. From streaming internet video to broadcast digital television and digital cinema, the video codec is a key building block for a host of new multimedia applications and services. Video Codec Design sets out to de-mystify the subject of video coding and present a practical, design-based approach to this emerging field.
  • Effelsberg W., Steinmetz R. Video Compression Techniques
Compression techniques for digital video are a vital component of all multimedia systems. This book introduces the fundamentals of compression algorithms, including entropy and source encoding, run-length encoding, vector quantization, Huffman codes and DCT. It proceeds with state-of-the-art still image compression with an emphasis on the algorithms used in multimedia systems today, such as JPEG and fractal image compression. A real challenge in terms of runtime performance is digital video, and video compression algorithms including MPEG, Wavelets and H.261 are the topic of an in-depth discussion.
